The Oresund Bridge - I wonder if it would've made a difference?

This incredible structure was completed in 1999 and opened to the public in 2000.  If it existed in 1943, would it have made rescuing Denmark's Jewish population any easier?  Please defend your thoughts.

  1. They might be able to use it to save Jews, but not really any easier. It might be really busy and German soldiers would be on it. They might capture the Jews, and do horrible things to them. There is a good possibility that German soldiers would be on it, but it might not have them on it because it is connected with Sweden, a free country. The bridge might make escaping Jews less noticeable, because taking people out on a row boat might look a little suspicious...

  2. No. Nazis would be lined up trying to find if you were Jewish. On boat would be easier because not many Nazis would be looking for Jews on fishing boats.

    1. And, it would be VERY BUSY. With 60,000 or more people escaping each day.

  3. They might use it to save the Jews but I would assume it would be tough because the German soldiers would know all about it they would probably ask if the people were Jewish they might check your vehicle for people that are Jewish or they might even not let anybody cross the bridge.

    1. Maybe the people could go under the bridge by boat
but it would probably have to be dark and you'd have to watch out for German soldiers.

  4. It would have been harder because they might have had the bridge taken and ouciped by the Germans soldiers and it would not been able to been used for the jews

  5. Yes. It would make it easier to move them. And it would go faster.

    1. It would have been covered by the Germans so it would not work to get there faster and easier. D;

  6. No, because German soldiers would probably on the the bridge looking for escaping Jews and if Jews went on boat under the bridge there would probably be German soldiers on boats too, so it would be hard for a Jew to escape.

  7. It might of, but the fact that the Nazis probababily would have baricaded it off would not help.

  8. yes and no, yes for the soldiers. Because they could line up on the bridge and if they saw Jews they could jump on the boat and take them away.NO, because the soldiers may be on the bridge and that would make it much harder for the Jews to be transported they may need to find a new way of transportation or hide on board.

  9. No,because the Denmark soldiers would guard the bridge and take all the Jewish people who tried to use the bridge. It would actual make escaping harder for the Jewish people.

  10. It wouldn't make it easier because since it connected from Denmark to Sweden Nazis would be there all day probably inspecting all the cars so it would be even worse

  11. I think the bridge wouldn't have done anything better at all, if you tried to escape on the bridge the Nazis would be there because they know that Jews are going to try to escape there. It also would be harder to travel because the Nazis could have searchlights along the bridge making escape harder by boat.

  12. If this bridge existed during the 1940's, maybe it would be a bit easier to get Jews to Sweden other than boat trips or swimming, but it would be worse too, because the Nazis would probably send soldiers to stand at the edges of the bridge and question anybody who crosses. That would make it even harder.

  13. I think that the bridge would have made a difference but not a very big one because Nazis would be on the bridge but Jews could always discise themselves.

  14. Pros: It would be easier to transport the Jewish people because you wouldn't have to take a boat and row all the way to Sweden. It would be a very long and tiring journey. The bridge could hold a lot more people than a boat could. You could walk, run, or even drive on the bridge. The Nazi soldiers would have to cover the bridge and the water.

Cons:The bridge would probably be heavily guarded by Nazi Soldiers and it would be hard to get through. The Nazis could also put searchlights on the bridge and look for runaway Jewish people. The Nazis would stop you and question you on the bridge. It would be harder to get on a boat and then question them and arrest them.

  15. Yes, It would be easier to get the Jews to sweeden. It would be easier and faster to drive across the bridge than to find someone that would sail them there.

  16. The population of Denmark was partially Jewish and if all the Jewish people in WW2 were to be saved the population would be bigger.

  17. If the bridge was there in the 1940's the solders would be occupying the bridge more than the corners of Copenhagen.

  19. If the bridge was in the 1940's the Jews would have a easier way to escape but the solders would be on the bridge an would fine any Jews trying to escape.

  20. The Jewish people would use it to escape but the Nazies would be on it wait for the Jewish people to try to escape. All the Jewish people would be taken away and it wouldn't be very useful.

  21. Yes, the Jewish could go across the Oresund bridge to Sweden and Sweden stayed nutral so the the German Soldiers cannot be in Sweden.

  22. It may be built for the Nazies to drive their vehicles and look down by the water or for the Jews to escape easier.

  23. It would not make a difference because Nazi soldiers would line up and check if you were Jewish.I think a boat ride would be better.

  24. It would be easier for the Jewish people to escape, but Nazis would probably guard the bridge. :(
