Number the Stars - Character Comparisons
This thread on the blog is devoted to comparisons that we can make between characters from Number the Stars with characters from other books. Comparing story characters to real people, such as parents, cousins, neighbors, celebrities, or people in history is also a great thinking activity. Please visit this thread and publish your thoughts every time you think of a comparison. Please explain your ideas clearly.

Annmarie is kind of like Monique in The Butterfly because she has a friend who is Jewish that she has to hide in her home from the Nazis.

ReplyDeleteAnnmarie's mom is like the mom in the butter fly because she's helping Ellen's family also Ellen is like the girl from the butterfly because there both Jewish and being helped by another family
ReplyDeleteAlso Annmarie is kind of like Joseph there different genders but they have the same kind of personality and they help there friends
ReplyDeleteAnnemarie is like Moniqe from The Butterfly because Annemarie is a friend if a Jewish girl just like Moniqe and Sevrine. I hope Ellens parents and herself survive.

DeleteAnnemaire hasn't done anything that's like, super amazing, but she reminds me of this boy named Joshua. Joshua is being chased by the Germans because he's a Jew. He does some pretty daring things, like shoving a flowerpot onto the head of a soldier. I bet that Annemaire will do stuff like that later in the story.
ReplyDeleteEllen and her family remind me of Simon in a book called Simon's Escape: A Story of the Holocaust By: Bonnie Pryor. Simon is Jewish too and he has to go into hiding. Just like Ellen.
ReplyDeleteKirsti reminds me of Jared because they are little and nobody tells them what is going on because they might tell someone.
DeleteThe lady with her baby reminds me of all moms. When Peter wanted to put the baby to sleep so she wouldn't cry the mother was worried that there would be bad effects. EVERY MOTHER would worry about it.
DeleteAnnmarie reminds me of Monique and Ellen reminds me of Sevrine. Monique and Sevrine are friends Annmarie and Ellen are friends.

DeleteAnnemarie is like Joseph because they both kept somebody indangerd in their home and where very close of getting caught.
ReplyDeleteAnnemarie makes me think of the girl in 'The Butterfly' that hides Sevrine in her basement. Ellen makes me think of Sevrine because she is a Jew and she is in hiding.

Mrs.Johansson= Monique- both have secret meetings (mrs.J coffie and Monique with sirvrenes' family)
Kirsti= me- we both have older sisters who play with friends without me:)
Uncle Henrik almost reminds me of a spy or secret agent because he uses a code to talk in alot with Mrs. Johanson. Thor (the cat) reminds me of my dog Oakley because he is always timid like my dog.

ReplyDeleteAnnmarie is brave just like.Joseph and how he helped his friends i compare theme together cause they both are brave people.At the same time try to help and they are Joseph is helping Hanna and Mairem and Lilly when Annmarie is helping Ellen.

ReplyDeleteMrs.Johanson reminds me of the mom in The Butterfly because they both risk their lives to save the family that they are helping and they also remind me of Desporax for being brave when he was all alone.
ReplyDeleteEvie.... This is exactly what I'm talking about. I love that you can see similarities between a mouse and a human. I love that you can see beyond the physical characteristics of these characters, and understand these characters for who they are on the inside.

I think Ellen is like Luthor from the book Hideout by Gordon Korman because both of them are hiding from people who want to take them away and at some places it gets really intense.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that Mr.Johanson is very similar to the father in the Swiss Family Robinson(for those of you who have not read it the story is about a family that is shipwrecked on an island and take things from their ship to build a house). The father in the book is a leader and is a very brave man who is a good father, and husband.

ReplyDeletePeter reminds me of a cat in the Warriors book series named LionBlaze. He reminds me of LionBlaze because he is always doing daring things, things like sneaking out after curfew, not getting caught, and is always nice and good at everything.
ReplyDeleteKirsti reminds me of Mr. Byers in Joseph, because she isn't afraid to state her opinion, and doesn't care how other people think of her because of that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Annmarie,Ellen,and Kirsti are kind of like Amos, Clair,and Jonathan because they both are going to another place trying to avoid someone. For Annmarie, Ellen and Kirsti it's The Nazis and for Amos, Clair and Jonathon it's the Indians. They got caught, maybe Annmarie, Ellen and Kirsti will get caught too.

ReplyDeletePeter and Uncle Henrik remind me of Hunter from the game 'Spyro Dawn of the Dragons' because he protects Spyro and Cinder (which in Peter and Uncle Henrik's piont of veiw Spyro and Cinder are Jews).

ReplyDeleteI think Ellen reminds me of Tweedy Bird from the Loony Tunes because they are both trying to avoid someone or a group. Ellen is being chased by the Nazis because she is Jewish. Tweedy Bird is being chased by Sylvester in the Loony Tunes.

ReplyDeleteI think AnneMarie is like Harriet Tubman. I think they are similar because what ever the case they help people in danger no matter what the cost is. They have wonderful beauty in helping others to be free or to be safe and feel no threat. Harriet was a founder of the underground rail road a route helping slaves to freedom. The under ground rail road reminds me of the stratiges of hiding Jews from the Natzi's. I think that these people sound very similar.

ReplyDeleteI think Kirsti and Jarred are alike because they are both left out of secrets because when Joseph and his family helped the slaves escape Jarred did not know. Kirsti was let out of the process of getting Ellen and her family to Sweden and giving Uncle Henrik the package.

I think Kirsti is like Jared from the book Joseph because they are both the youngest kids and don't know what is going on. Annmarie reminds me of Joseph from the book Joseph because they are both brave and would put others lives before there life. Ellen reminds me of Lilly and Mariam from Joseph because they are both running away from somebody.
ReplyDeleteI think Annemarie's mom is like Louis's dad from Trumpet of the Swan because annemarie's mom helped the Jews get to Henrik's boat even though she got hurt and Louis's dad helped Louis get the trumpet even though he got hurt.
