The Oresund Bridge (Learning Extension)

Watch the video!  Interested in architecture and engineering?  Check out this megastructure that is now connecting the Danish and Swedish economies.  This incredible structure was completed in 1999 and opened to the public in 2000.

Something to think about regarding Number the Stars...

If the bridge existed in 1943, would it have made rescuing Denmark's Jewish population any easier?  Think this through and defend your thoughts.

  1. Yes because they could easily travel to Sweden to escape the germans.

  4. Not really because germans could go on the bridge to sweeden and to denmark. the bridge would not help.

  5. I think it could not because the Jewish people will cross it,but the Nazis will know where they have went because they patrol around the place they are assembled. Maybe but No!

  6. If it was built the Nazis would try to occupy it and they would soon realize that it was a secret escape route to Sweden which at the time was neutral and was not occopyed by the Nazis and was safe.

    1. I think you're right, Elias. If a bridge existed it would only make sense for the Nazis to block the bridge from being used by anyone. Therefore, it seems that a different means of transportation is necessary.

  8. No because if there was a bridge that connected Denmark to Freedom Sweden the Nazi's would block it from anyone's use

  9. Yes and no. It would be easier to cross from Denmark to Sweden since you wouldn't have to walk all the way there. But, if the Nazis knew, then they'd block the bridge and the percentage of escaped Jews would go down. If the Jews used the bridge, the Nazis probably would have blocked that route, and all of the Jews would be captured. I have one question though, did the Nazis even know that the Jews knew that they were coming? Because, if they didn't, they probably wouldn't think it would be necessary to block it since they thought Jews didn't know that they were coming. So, it may have been a good idea, but anyway, the Nazis are everywhere, so they'd most likely be guarding the bridge. But, if the Nazis were there, there probably weren't a lot, since the Nazi's focus probably wouldn't be the bridge if they thought the Jews didn't know. So, it is controversial, but I think that it wouldn't be a good idea for the most.
