Mr. Johansen calls Uncle Henrik in the middle of the night and asks him if the weather is good for fishing. I don't know about you, but it seems odd to call someone in the middle of the night, right after your home has been invaded by soldiers, to ask if the weather was good for fishing. Was Mr. Johansen really wondering about the fishing conditions? Or was there a different meaning behind his words?
I think that the meaning of the fish subject is that they are planning to do or go somewhere that the Nazi's wouldn't suspect to keep not only Ellen bu the whole Rosen family safe.

ReplyDeleteI think it is a secret code for something, but I don't know exactly what. Like when Annemarie's parents told Uncle Henrik he was getting a pack of cigarettes. Since there are no cigarettes in Copenhagen, that must mean something else as well. I'm guessing that "Is it good weather for fishing," has to do something with Ellen.

While they were talking they MAYBE were talking about that Peter should bring Ellen´s parents there because it is in the country side. Although, i´m still not sure why he asked if the weather was good for fishing or about the cigarettes.

When they were talking about the ciggerets they were talking about Ellen and when they were talking about more ciggerets will come to you they were talking about the Jews. DeleteThe phrase, "Is the weather good for fishing seems quite odd to me. I believe that it may mean is it all clear for Ellen and Annemarie to stay. For example, I wouldn't go fishing if the "Weather" wasn't good enough for it. This may relate to the "Weather" meaning if there's Nazis or not. So, if the "Weather" isn't good, that obviously means there's Nazis in the area, or it's not clear to have Ellen stay there.

DeleteNo, of course they were not talking about cigarettes in this dangerous time. He said something about "Were sending ONE pack of cigarettes, which now I know they are refering to Jews as packs of cigarettes, and that one pack of cigarettes just so happens to be Ellen Rosen.

And I think Uncle Henrik will take Ellen and hide her in his country-side home. I also know that that the "pack of cigarettes" stands for Ellen. By saying "I will bring you a pack of cigarettes," it means that Mrs. Johansen would bring Ellen to him.

Thought there is no reason to call someone on the phone at night to ask if it is a good day to go fishing, there is also no reason for the author to just put that sentence in the book. It has to mean something. Maybe Mr. Joanson asked Uncle Henrik if it was a good day to fish so that maybe they could disguise Ellen as a fisher man. Maybe he just wanted to know if the waves were good for sailing a boat. That way they could get Ellen to Sweeden.

An that Jew is Ellen. The reason why they are hiding the name is because they don't want any soldiers to know about Ellen,so she dose not get tooken an away by one of the the soldiers.
