Number the Stars (Chapter 14)

Why does the author have Annemarie think about the story of Little Red Riding Hood as she is traveling along the dark path?  Is there a relationship between the tale and Annemarie's situation?

  1. Their is a relation ship because Little red ridding hood was bringing a meal to her grandma and Annemarie was pretending to. The Author compared the soldiers that stoped her to the Wolf in Little Red Riding hood. She used this story so it was easy to understand the part of the story.

  2. She is comparing Little Red riding hood to the sounds in the woods pretending to give her grandma a apple, cheese, and bread.

  3. She is like little Red Riding Hood because she has a package that she needs to give to her uncle and shes running through the woods and the German soldiers could take the place of the wolf.

  4. Me and Addison read and I believe she is comparing herself to the journey she is taking and how it seems like little red riding hood.

  5. Their is a realation ship because they are both "Delivering Food" to someone. Also, they are both going down a dangerous path. Little Red Ridding Hood ran into a wolf and Annemarie ran into Nazi soldiers.

  6. There was a relationship and that was how the soldiers was the wolf, the basket with the message was the lunch for the grandma, and then the path is the path.

  8. The author has Annemarie think about the story of Little Red Riding Hood because Annemarie is carrying a basket and going through the woods until something bad happens.

  9. They are alike because they are both going through the woods bringing food to someone in the middle of the night.

  10. She is comparing them together because she feels like Little Red Riding Hood. The sounds of the wolf is really the dogs with the soldiers. Little Red is giving something to her grandma , so the grandma is Uncle Henrik.

  11. She is like little red riding hood because she needs to bring a basket to her Uncle Henrick and little red riding hood brought a basket to her grandma. That is why the author did that.

  12. I think that Annemarie is kinda living the story exsept in real life. Instead of a talking wolf there is dogs and Nazi soldiers.

  13. They are comparing the stories.

  14. Because she has a basket of food and that the Nazi soldiers are the wolf's.

  15. Because little red ridding hood was carrying a basket of food to her grandma and Annemarie was carrying a basket of food to her Uncle.

  16. The author compares it to little red riding hood because she is in the woods and is delivering something and in little red riding hood the same thing happened.

  17. I think the author is trying to two show that Annemarie is taking little red riding hoods way and something will come out of the woods and try to hurt her. The relasion between stories is that thier both carring baskets.

  18. She thinks of the story because they are in the woods .The relationship with the two stories are that they both have a basket, they are both in the woods, and they are bringing food to other people

  22. In little red riding hood the girl is delivering food to her grandma and the wolf is in the bushes. Annnemarie is delivering a inportant packet and the soldiers are following her in the bushes.

  23. Yes because Annemarie is carring a basket of food while Little Red Riding Hood is delivering cookies to her sick grandma. Also in Little Red riding hood she see's a wolf while Annemarie see's Nazi soldiers.

  24. There is a relationship that the author was trying to show. Little Red Riding Hood was also traveling through the forest like Annmarie. But what I feel the author was trying to say was even though she felt it was a harmless journey it was not. Little Red Riding Hood's challenge was the scary forest and the wolf and I believe the author wants you to think that Annmarie's wolf was the Soldiers.

  25. The situation and the story are alike because because Annemarie is delivering "food" to Henrik like like Little Red Riding Hood taking the food to her grandma. And with Annemarie the Nazis are like the Wolves incorparated with Little Red Riding Hood's story.

  26. There is a relationship between the tale and Annemarie's path. Maybe, the tale shows how Annemarie's time running on the path is the same of how the tale goes. When the soldiers approach Annemarie, the wolf approaches little red riding hood. To incorporate a tale in the story, the author includes that Annemarie meets a "wolf". (the soldiers).

  27. The auther compared them so the reader could better understand what was going on. Both stories are about a little girl delivering something to someone. And both are helping other people. What Little Red Riding Hood does to get away is she tricks the wolf, so Annemarie might do the same.

  28. The auther compared them so the reader could better understand what was going on. Both stories are about a little girl delivering something to someone. And both are helping other people. What Little Red Riding Hood does to get away is she tricks the wolf, so Annemarie might do the same.

  29. It is similar because Annemarie is delivering food and the package in a basket to a relative in the woods. Little Red Riding Hood delivered food in the basket through the woods to her relative. They both got stopped by somebody who they were against (the wolf and the Nazi soldiers).

  30. It is similar because Annemarie has to get a basket with food and other things in it, and little Red Riding Hood had to bring a basket to her grandma. They are also similar because Annemarie was stopped by Nazi soldiers with dogs, and little Red Riding Hood was stopped by a wolf.

  31. There is a realationship between Little Red Riding Hood and Number the Stars because they are both carrying baskets through quite creepy forests and their are dangers in both forests. The danger in Reds forest is the wolf and the danger in Anne Marie´s forest is the Nazi soldiers. For both characters there was a risk in doing what they are doing. It probably was not an easy decision for either one of them to go and deliver their baskets knowing the dangers. So the similarity is that they both have a few ounces of bravery in them.

  32. The author wants there to be a sensation of Annemarie's fear that something might happen in the woods but in order for her not to panic she has to think about something else. The relationship between them is that the both girls are traveling through the wood not being aware of somethings such as the soldier and the wolf being there.

  33. they compare it to show how it was a long and scary trip through the forest to deliver something to help somebody else. It is like in Lotsa De Casha were you have to put someone else before yourself. Also earlier in the story she did not think she was brave but she really is.

    ReplyDelete
  34. She is singing it in her head because she is going on a path she also is carring a basket of food with a card in it so is little red ridding hood but she is carring cookies but there is no card in it and there is a wolf that meets little red ridding hood and the Nazi soldiers with dogs that meets Annemarie there on the path right by the boats and the dock.

  35. Since everybody knows the story of Red Riding Hood, and knows how scary the forest is, the author is trying to build up suspense by relating the Annemarie´s situation to a fairy tale. The stories are very similar. In Red Riding Hood, ¨Little Red¨ is carrying an important basket of goods to her sick grandmother. All the while, she is nervous that a wolf might attack her. Annemarie, is carrying a lifesaving packet to Peter and his passengers on the boat. She is worried that some Nazi soldiers might find a little girl her age suspicious at this early in the morning. In little Red Riding Hood, she gets stopped by a wolf, but still manages to complete her mission. Hopefully, this means that, even though she is stopped by Nazi soldiers, Annemarie safely manages to give the packet to Peter.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes because Annemarie has to deliver something which requires bravery just like in Little Red Riding Hood.

    ReplyDelete
  37. beacuse she is in the woods and that is were the story takes place

  38. I think that the group of Jews get found by the Nazis just like how the wolf ate the grandmother in the story. Or Annemarie wants to think of happier time of her life.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The author has Annemarie think about the tale because it will make her think of happier times when she wasn't scared. Also it will make her less scared by saying that Kirsti would be scared of that showing she wouldn't since she wants to set a good example by not being scared. There is a relationship between the tale and Annemarie's situation because Annemarie is acting like a careless little girl like Red Ridding hood and then comes the wolf though in Annemarie's situation its two soldiers standing upon her. Annemarie will have to be brave like little red ridding hood and must think cleverly.

  40. The author has Annmarie think about little red riding hood because little red riding hood walks down a path to deliver something to someone/relative just like Annmarie was delivering the packet to uncle Henrik. They are both taking the route in the woods. And , around the middle of the route, they hear a rustling and a low growl coming from a bush. And both animals look angry and also look like they could do harm. And they both don't have any suspicion that a fierce looking animal such as the dogs or the wolf, will distract them and do something bad.

  41. The author has Annemaire think about The Little Red Riding Hood story to calm her down and not think about the soldiers in the woods. She wanted Annemarie to think back to happier times and think of it like delivering a package to her Uncle.

The relationship between the two is great. Both of the girls feel like they are not very brave but what they truly don't know is how brave they both really are.

  42. I believe that the author did this because Annemarie is basecly Little Red Riding-Hood at that moment, and that there is a comparison between the two stories at that same moment and time and place. I believe that Annemarie was thinking about it because the author,Lois Lowery, was basing what Annemarie was doing on the story of Little Red Riding-Hood.
