Amos! What were you thinking?

Was is wise, or unwise of Amos to pull the Indian boy from the Ohio River?  Explain your thoughts clearly.

  1. I think it was smart to save the indian. After all, he saved their lives when they met up with his indian friends.

  2. I think it was smart to save the indian because the indian could help them find their food, and if the indian tried to hurt them,it would highly unlikely because the indian was so weak he couldn't even sit up. The rest of the tribe gave them the deer meat so they wouldn't be that hungry and so that Clara could get a little bit stronger whe she was healing from the fever. So that is why I think it was a smart idea to save the indian.

  3. I think its was smart to save the Indian boy because he could help them and maybe the indain could save their lives and help with food water and shelter. The Indian boy could show them the way around and teach them things about the wild.Thats why i think it was smart to save the Indian boy.

  4. I think it was wise for Amos to pull the Indian boy from the river because the Indian boy could help them find food, make a shelter or just survive in the wilderness. The Indian could help Clara, Amos, and Johnathon find their father because after all he is an Indian. Also, if Amos didn't pull the Indian boy out he could of drowned and die. If I was the Indian I would like to stay alive for as long as I can!

  5. Nicole, Those are all good points. Do you think there may have been a different motivation, though, for Amos, besides getting assistance from the Indian?

    1. Actually, my comments for Nicole are directed at everyone thinking about this question. Besides getting help from the Indian boy, is there another, more personal reason that Amos saved the boy from the river?

  6. I think it was a good idea to save the indian because in the end the indians did not like them but red moccaiskin defended them and became good friends.

  7. I think it was smart to save the Indian because he had helped them stay safe when they were attacked by his tribe and in the end they could understand each other well. Also by saving the Indian the white man was able to follow the tribe and find them. I think if Amos hadn't saved the Indian he might have felt guilty and might have had another burden. He might have always been thinking what happened to him, like did he drown or stay alive.
