The Oresund Bridge (Extended Learning)

Watch the video first!  This incredible structure was completed in 1999 and opened to the public in 2000.  If it existed in 1943, would it have made rescuing Denmark's Jewish population any easier?  Please defend your thoughts.

  1. No, it would be very much more dangerous, because it would almost block the boats from getting to sweden, and it would be VERY heavily guarded because the Nazis would expect people to use it, and it would also give them a better view and place to fire at the boats to help jews to escape. Overall, Very dangerous

  2. I think it could be good and bad at the same time. The bridge could be used for sniping jewish boats below, but jews could also travel on the bridge but be careful because the nazi's would think that jew's that were trying to escape would most likely use it to escape to freedom. Overall I think the jews would have a better chance if they did not use the bridge.

  3. It would not have made it easier it would have been harder than sailing the jews across the water. The Nazis would have been guarding the bridge and would not let anyone in or anyone out in less it was another Nazi.

  4. yes because it would make a faster means of transporting refuges and no because it would make it so the Germans could follow them easier.

  5. I say that there both good and bad because the bridge can be good for traveling. But it could be bad because people can die from other people.

  6. It probably would have not made it easier because Nazis where probably searching cars for Jewis reffugees. So sialing would have been easeir.

  7. I think that it could be good and bad. I think its good because the Jews could get across very easy, yet the Nazis could follow them and catch them, and it would also block boats and cause damage.

I think its bad because Nazis could catch jews very easily, boats would be better naturally because you can pretend to go fishing. Also boats would get damaged by the bridge. It would be hard to escape to Sweeden. Overall its pretty bad if the bridge was there in 1943

  9. I think yes and no because the Jews could escape but since the soldiers have feet to they can follow and capture the Jews. But i think the Jews would have a better chance not using the bridge because if they swim the soldiers would get weighed down by all the weaponry the were carrying.

  10. I don't think it would, actually it would probably make things worse because then the Nazi's would have a clear view of the water and see more ships come in and it would probably have a toll to cross and the Nazi's would probably look in their for Jewish refugees.

  11. I think the bridge is good and bad because it was bad because maybe if the Jews were escaping the Nazis could see them from the bridge and ambush them or get them and but them into jail or maybe kill them. It was good because maybe if the Nazis were ready maybe they could go past them and get to a safe place were they would not be found.

  12. I think having this bridge made during The Nazi Occupation in Denmark would be terrible. 1st of all the Nazis would have shut down the bridge so no Jews could get away. 2cd of all Nazi soldiers would have been stationed on the bridge to look out on the water to make sure there were no boats sailing away from Denmark with Jews.

  13. It would be good and bad. It could block people going to Sweden on their boats, but refugees could try and hide in the zig zag part near the top; VVVVVVVV Also, the Nazis could just cross the bridge anyway.

  14. I think it would be good and bad because the Jews could go across the bridge into Sweden but it would be bad because it would have been guarded by german soldiers.

  15. It might make it easier at first, but eventually the Nazis would realize that many Jews were using it to escape, and it would be guarded with soldiers. If the runaway Jews were sneaky enough, maybe they would have a slight chance of escaping.

    1. The bridge would also block boats escaping from Denmark.

  16. It would have not been easier because because the bridge was not opened all the way until 2002 so the jewish refugees could also not get across

  17. The bridge may be thought to be good, but it would be heavily guarded with Nazi soldiers, because with Sweeden being a free country, they would expect many Jews to try to us it. The bridge was overall very dangerous.

  18. it would make it easier because the German would not know about the Jews crossing the bridge

  19. It wouldn't be good because the Nazis would cross and take over Sweden and surround it so nobody could cross.

  20. It would not have been easier it would be harder than sailing the Jews across the water. The Nazis would not let anyone cross.

  21. It would not have been easier because the Nazis would infest the bridge, and people would have less excuses to be in a car then in a boat.

  22. I don't think it would be easier because the Nazis would guard the bridge. If a Jew tried to cross the bridge, they would be captured by the Nazis.

  23. The bridge would be no good because the Nazis would just take it over (it is also a lot easier to search cars on a bridge than boats on a sea). Plus, it does not make it easier for those on boats. It even would help the Nazis capture Jewish refugees in Sweden.

  24. It would be no good because the Nazis would etheir take it over or blow it up and can have and angle to take over Sweden.

    1. It would also make it easier to capture the people on the boats and capture innocent people from Sweden.

  25. I don't think it would have made escaping from the Nazi soldiers any easier than it was by ship. Only the first couple people would have been able to get across, but the rest would have been caught.

  26. I think it would be very dangerous or easy. I think it would be hard because Nazi soldiers would be all over the bridge so if a boat or a car had a Jewish refugee they would have easy range to shoot or pull them over. It would be easy because if the Nazi soldiers did not check your car or boat you would be in a free country, Sweden
