In the Name of Science!

The NIMH experiments made the rats better - smarter, stronger, and healthier.  But the experiments were done against their will.  Does the fact that the experiments were beneficial (helpful) to the rats make it okay that the rats had no choice in the matter?  Is it okay to experiment on anyone (animals included) in the name of science?  Why or why not?

  2. I don't think that it is right to experiment on animals or humans unless they allow it because it could harm them mentally or physically.

    1. This is very true but what if the test subject wants to be experimented on?I think that if the subject said that it wanted to have a experiment done on it then it would be fine.

    1. That is true but what if the person wanted to have the experiment done? Then I think that it would be o.k.

    1. What if a antidote was made so that if something went wrong then the scientist could fix it?

  5. I do not think that it is okay at all unless whoever or whatever that you are experimenting on agrees with whatever you try to do to them.It is just not right and like Adam said it can harm them.Even if it is a experiment that can make millions of dollars, ask the test subject,is this okay?

  6. I think it would not be nice to do an experiment on anyone because it would not be nice or it could hurt or kill someone or some thing.

  7. It might be okay if you really knew what you were doing and make sure you weren't going to harm or kill the animal or person.

    1. I think that it would be o.k. too so long as there was permission asked before doing the experiment.

  8. I do not think they should do expiramints on other animals. Most animals would be scared.

    1. You are right the animals would be scared and they could be hurt if the experiment went wrong.

  10. I do not think that what NIMH did was right. It did help the rats by making them stronger and smarter but the rats did not ask for it to be done for them and they did not have a say in the experiment,it was very wrong.

  11. What chapter is this in?

  12. It depends on if the subject wants to or doesn't want to get tested and if you have a cure if something is wrong.

  13. I think it would be unfair because if something went wrong the human or animal could die or be badly hurt. Some mice might not want that to have so they could be mad.

  14. Not really because if there was a dangerous chemical that the rats had put in there body before (that we don't know about) the experiment something would possibly gone wrong or the chemicals from the experiments something could go right.
