Oh, The Things He Says!

The cob is one of my favorite characters.  I imagine the tone and volume of his voice to be greatly exaggerated and almost Disney-like - Very dramatic!  What are some of your favorite quotes from the cob that really give us, the readers, a sense of his personality.

  1. (This is not from the book directly. Its from my memory.)
"Come my children! My sons and daughters, welcome to this secluded pond and swamp adjacent!" Usually, you wouldn't say something like this to your two minute children. You'd be saying choochy - choochy - coo, or blowing raspberries.

  2. Charlie, That's quite a memory you have! I like those lines, too. I look forward to more contributions from you and the others this week.

  3. My favorite quotes from the cob are when pulls louis out and says"Go louis make a beep like the others! Make yourself herd! Make a ko-hoh! go on do it!" (this is also from memory) I like these quotes because to me they are exciting and make me want to keep reading.

  5. On page 25, the Cob says, "Look out!" He trumpeted. "Look out for the fox who is creeping toward you even as I speak, his eyes bright, his bushy tail out straight, his mind lusting for blood, his belly almost touching the ground! You are in grave danger, and we must act immediately!"
This shows me that the Cob is protective about his mate. He's a little bit of a drama queen like my sister. He could have just said, "Hey! Look out for the fox!"

    1. Yeah, I agree. Its possible that when he was giving his "grand speech" the fox could have walked right up and started feasting on the mother swan. If that happened he'd probably give another speech about how unfortunate they all were. :)

  6. "I glide gracefully like a swan." I don't like the quote, but the part is funny.

  7. On page 34 the cob says "Will the boys glasses make me appear even larger than I am?" asked the cob, hopefully.

    2. Anybody who wants to appear bigger than they actually are, they're either going to war, or is very full of their self. (If anybody wants I have backup.) :)
